Obituary of Philip James Scherzinger Sr.
Philip James Scherzinger Sr., 76, passed away on January 30, 2025, at Hackettstown Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the beloved son of the late Berthold and Ruth Scherzinger.
Philip grew up in the city and was a proud alumnus of the Fanwood School for the Deaf, graduating in 1968. Following his education, he attended trade school, which paved the way for his career as an engineering manager at Verizon in New York City. After retiring from Verizon, he worked part-time at Domino’s, where he stayed active and engaged outside of his hobbies until his passing.
On August 11, 2000, Philip married GinaMaria Andreano, in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Together, they built a life filled with love for their children and cherished memories.
Philip was a devoted father to his children: Philip Scherzinger Jr. and Paul Scherzinger, from his prior marriage to Mary Scherzinger, and Jessica Scherzinger and Alexander Scherzinger, from his marriage to GinaMaria. He was also a proud stepfather to GinaMaria Correia and Michael Correia.
In his younger years, Philip was an exceptional athlete, excelling in baseball as the first baseman for the Pelicans Club Baseball Team. He was also a longtime member of the Staten Island Deaf Club and actively participated in several associations that supported the Deaf community.
A lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants, Philip’s passion for sports was unwavering—many would say he may have actually bled blue. In addition to his love for sports, he enjoyed playing poker and was known for his impressive bluffing skills.
Philip is survived by his wife of 24 years, GinaMaria Scherzinger; his children, Philip Scherzinger Jr. and his wife, Cassandra, Paul Scherzinger, Jessica Scherzinger, and Alexander Scherzinger; and his stepchildren, GinaMaria Correia and Michael Correia. He was predeceased by his parents, Berthold and Ruth Scherzinger, and his sister, Elizabeth Scherzinger Kimura.
Philip will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
