Obituary of John Thomas Cooper
John T. Cooper
Pondtown
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. John Thomas Cooper, aged 82. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather who happily impacted the lives of all those around him.
Born July 6, 1943, in Chestertown, Maryland, John grew up in a loving home in Georgetown, Maryland with his parents Mary and James G. and five siblings. He was preceded in death recently by his wife Gloria after 62 years of marriage. He lovingly provided care for Gloria for many years as her health declined.
John was passionate about his faith, his family, and his music. John retired after 30+ years from Gillespie & Sons Concrete. He was the president and lead guitarist of the gospel group the Pilgrim Travelers. John participated in the men's choir and Sr. choir at his home church of Mount Pleasant in Pondtown M.D.
John was a devoted family man. He was known for his generosity and support of many in the local communities and was always there to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends when needed. He especially loved spending time with the children in his life, instilling guidance, faith, trust, and support as they grew into young adults. He took his role as patriarch seriously, wanting nothing but the best for all around him.
John’s health began to decline in recent years, but his humor and spirit remained strong. He spent his last days surrounded by and being cared for by his family. He passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in New Jersey in his sleep with his granddaughter Andi and great-grandsons Allan and Adrian by his side.
John is survived by his children, Anthony (Tammy), and Darren (Sherry), his two granddaughters Andi and Jessica (Dave); two great-grandsons Allan (Nyla) and Adrian and one great-great-grandson Calem. He will be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends who appreciate his impact on their lives.
