Obituary of Richard F DeVries

Richard F. DeVries, 88, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at Above & Beyond at the Knights Senior Care Facility, Allentown, PA, where he resided since 2022.   He was born October 23 ,1936, to Frederick and Gertrude (nee Seyfried) DeVries.  Richard was employed at The Grand Union grocery store, where he worked until he retired.  He was a very caring man who provided for his parents and sister, Joyce, until their deaths.

An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed hunting, playing quoits, watching the Yankees, and attending concerts and many local activities.

He was a faithful member of Living Word Fellowship Church, in Washington, NJ.

He is survived by his faithful and loving companion of 25 years, Pat Summitt; four nephews, Rodney Harrison, Jr., and his wife, Susan, William Harrison and his wife, Christine, Richard Harrison and his wife, Sandra, Randy Harrison and his wife, Joann; one niece, Becky (Harrison) Cully.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Gertrude DeVries; and two sisters, Joan (DeVries) Harrison and Joyce DeVries.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home and Cremation Service, located at 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ. A funeral service will be held immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at the Summerfield Cemetery.
