June Mayberry

Obituary of June Marie Mayberry

June Marie Edwards was born at home in Port Murray, NJ, to Frank and Sadie Edwards on September 28, 1942. She spent her childhood in Port Murray and then, after her family moved, at Mountain Lake.  It was there that she met her Future husband, Carl Mayberry, while he was home on leave from the Navy. It was simply meant to be -  his mother was caring for June and her younger brother while Frank and Sadie went on vacation.  She graduated from Belvidere HS in 1961 then married Carl on May 22, 1962.

June and Carl settled into a house built by her father, and it was there that she and Carl raised their 3 children, Brian, Matthew and Marilee. In her spare time, she enjoyed raising her birds and tropical fish, and reading.  During those years, she worked at for 15 years beside her sister, Ruth, at Rite Aid in Belvidere, NJ. After 40 years at Mountain Lake, June and Carl downsized to an apartment in Phillipsburg. After Carl’s death, and after suffering numerous health problems, June moved to Country Arch Care facility in Pittstown. There she enjoyed coloring, and the various activities available – and teasing everyone she met  (always friendly, never mean).

June is preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as siblings, Jimmy, Buddy, Bobby, and Tommy Edwards ; sisters Dorothy Young (Charles), Ruth Gross (Kenny) and Virginia Smith (Lowell), and best friend Celia Chmielewski. She is survived by her children, Brian Mayberry (Darlene) of Bangor, PA, Matthew Mayberry (Renee) of Hackettstown, NJ, and Marilee Duryea (Steve) of Lebanon Township as well as her brother, Johnny Edwards (Helen), sister-in-law Wilma, grandchildren Brian Jr., Aaron, Amber, Kayla, Justin, Tyler, Shay, and Evan and too many nieces and nephews to mention.

June’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Hunterdon Hospice and to her favorite caregivers at Country Arch, Raole, Eddie and Janine.

A graveside service will be held on September 26, 2025 at Port Murray Cemetery.
