Brandt Riker

Obituary of Brandt J. Riker

Brandt J. Riker, 61, of Washington, NJ, passed away suddenly on July 21, 2025.

Born on June 13, 1964, in Newark, NJ, Brandt was the beloved son of the late Brandt W. and Pauline Riker. He grew up in Hillside, NJ, and attended Hillside High School.

On July 21, 1997, Brandt married the love of his life, Julia Vega, at the Galloping Hill Country Club in Union, NJ. Together, they settled in Washington, NJ, where they built a beautiful life and raised their five cherished children: Kayla, Sara, Joshua, Sophia, and Annabella.

Brandt was known by all who loved him as exceptionally intelligent, with a near-photographic memory and an encyclopedic knowledge of the world around him. He had a deep love of learning and reading, and he was never without a book or a new subject to explore. He was especially gifted in woodworking, able to build nearly anything he imagined, and he poured that talent into countless home improvement projects over the years.

An accomplished poet and lover of the arts, Brandt also played guitar and had a special fondness for the timeless music of the original Rat Pack. A classic film buff, he could quote lines and share insights about old movies with ease. He was also a lifelong New York Yankees fan, proud of his ability to recall stats, players, and World Series moments with stunning precision.

Deep in his Christian faith, Brandt was a past member of the Hillside Knights of Columbus and formerly served as Vice President of the American Numismatic Association.

Above all else, Brandt was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was always there for his family, offering guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love. He was especially excited to meet his newest granddaughter, expected later this fall.

Brandt is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Julia Riker; his children Kayla Riker and her fiancé Bryan Iwaniszyn, Sara Riker, Joshua Riker and his girlfriend Alannah Strasser, Sophia Riker, and Annabella Riker; and his grandchildren Kamilla, Bradley, and a granddaughter on the way. He is also survived by his sisters Suzanne Riker and Paula Riker. He was predeceased by his parents, Brandt W. and Pauline Riker.

All services to be held privately in accordance with the family's wishes.
