Obituary of George Robert Phillips, Sr.

November 26, 1948 – November 28, 2025

George Robert Phillips, Sr., age 77, passed away on November 28, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on November 26, 1948, in Hardyston, New Jersey, he was the son of Frances Walters and Robert Lee Phillips.

George grew up in New Jersey and attended North Hunterdon High School. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, earning the rank of Private E-1. His service reflected the grit, loyalty, and strength that would define him throughout his life.

George built a long and hardworking career as a truck driver, a profession he took great pride in. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and the countless miles traveled.

Outside of work, George enjoyed life fully and without hesitation. He was a proud fan of NASCAR, the New York Yankees, and the New York Giants. He also loved the freedom of riding his Harley, the nostalgia of classic cars, and the fun and challenge of a round of golf.

George treasured his role as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children: Tonyalee Phillips and her partner Jeff Crawford, Nancy Lynn Gibney and her husband Edward, George Phillips, Jr. and his wife Casey, Chad Phillips and his partner Adrienne Crafa, and Sarah Phillips and her fiancé Matt Minnick. He is also survived by his stepdaughters: Colleen Cameron and her husband Valentine, and Cathy Mayberry and her husband Jeff. George’s legacy continues through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immeasurable pride and joy.

He will also be deeply missed by his siblings: Ronald Phillips and his wife Bernadette, Michael Phillips and his wife Cathy, Lawrence Phillips, Charles Phillips and his wife Karol, Steven Phillips and his wife Sue, and his sister Joann Stephenchuck, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

George was predeceased by his parents; his brother Daniel Walters; his nephew Dustin Walters; his nephew Ron Phillips; his niece Cecilia Phillips; and his brother-in-law Doug Stephenchuck.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate George’s life on Saturday, December 6th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM with words of remembrance and Marine Honors beginning at 2:00PM.
