Obituary of Daniel Eckel

Daniel S. Eckel, 85 of Washington, NJ passed away on April 28, 2011 at Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ surrounded by his family. Daniel was born on Jun 17, 1925 in Easton, PA. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot and Marie (nee Hogan) Eckel. Daniel was a graduate of Washington High School in 1942. He continued his studies at Rutgers Universtiy and received a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a dive-bomber pilot and a lieutenant, junior grade. Daniel was a mechanical engineer for Ingersoll Rand and later retired in 1987. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; Zenia Lolas Eckel. He is also survived by three sons; Daniel Eckel of Palmer Township, PA, James Eckel of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and John and wife Kathleen Eckel of Wall, NJ, a daughter; Debra and husband James Walsh of Flemington, NJ, a sister; Mary Elizabeth Little of Richardson, TX, and 12 grandchildren. He is predeceased by three brothers; Henry , William, and John Eckel and a sister; Pauline Cook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 2, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 200 Carlton Ave., Washington, NJ 07882 at 10:00 a.m. An interment will follow service at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Washington, NJ. In Daniel's memory, donations may be made to The Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Road Suite 300, Jacksonville,FL 32256.
