One day, the Red Cross held a blood drive at Unisys. Denis and I were among the last to donate, and were sitting in the canteen afterward. I started feeling strange, and one of the Red Cross people said "Come over here lie down." I made it halfway there before I passed out. Only for a few minutes, but the Red Cross kept me there until they were happy with my blood pressure. Denis casually loitered in the canteen through that whole time, and casually walked back with me to my desk, which was across the building from his own desk. It was all very casual, so I didn't feel any sillier than I already did. I've always remembered that incident as an example of his kindness.
I'm sorry to think that he's no longer with us, gallantly helping those in need.
