Obituary of Carolyn Volckmann

Carolyn V. Volckmann, 92, of Lebanon Township, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2012. She died at Country Meadows in Bethlehem, PA where she resided three years. Carolyn was born on September 30, 1920 in Jersey City, NJ. She was the daughter of the late William H. Dieffenbach and Carrie Sills. Carolyn grew up in Jersey City and graduated from Jersey City State Teacher College in 1942 with a teaching degree. In 1943 she married her husband, Harold C. Volckmann for 40 years until his death in 1983. Once married she and her husband resided in Fairview, NJ. She was very active many years as a girl scout leader, PTA president, and also taught kindergarten. Prior to moving to Fairview, she had also taught in Oxford, NJ. In 1961 the family moved to Lebanon Township, NJ at this time Carolyn taught kindergarten at Taylor Street School in Washington, NJ from 1961-1985. She was also very active in Bowling on the Friday night mixed league at Oakwood Lanes well into her eighties. Carolyn was a Ecumenicial Christian and was involved with both the First Presbyterian Church of Washington and the Changewater United Methodist Church, including the Methodist Women's Group which she served as vice president. She also delivered Meals on Wheels for 12 years. In her spare time she had several hobbies, one of them building doll houses, attending Elderhostils and traveling both here and abroad. Anything musical, her family gatherings, and being with them were her greatest treasure. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Harold Volckmann in 1983. She is survived by her loving daughter, Lynn C. Miller and her husband Charles of Washington Township, NJ, a loving son, Alan J. Volckmann of Lebanon Township, NJ and his wife Judy; also surviving, grandchildren, Judy Lynne Sozanski and her husband Steve of Franklin Townshi, NJ, Lori C. Snyder and husband Tom of Nazareth, PA, Jay Volckmann and his wife Tammy of Washington Township, NJ, Gregory Dickinson of Lebanon Township, NJ, Kimberly Ambrosino and husband Sal of Forks Township, PA. Also great-grandchildren; Thomas, Brandon, and Devon Adelbock, Gavin, Colin, and Paige Volckmann, Vincent and Giovanna Ambrosino, Summer and Ashley Sozanski, and Brooke and Cheyenne Dickinson. She is predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey Dickinson. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the DeVoe Funeral Service, Inc., 136 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the funeral home. An interment will follow at Mauch Chunk Cemetery, Jim Thorpe, PA.
