Obituary of Sophie Reedy

Sophie J. Reedy, 92, of Washington, NJ, died Monday September 17th at Warren Hospital after a short illness. Born November 5, 1914 in Cliffwood, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Navalaniec) Kogut. Her husband, Ralph V. Reedy, died in 1994. She was a native of Perth Amboy, NJ where she went to school and was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in PA. She came to Washington in 1963 and became a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she was a volunteer for many years. She was a member of the Rosary Society and the Social Club, a Eucharistic Minister and taught religious education from 1967 to 1992. In 1996 she was both a recipient of the Medal Regina Nostra for outstanding service to God and his people and cited by the General Assembly of the State of NJ for her volunteer efforts for the residents of Warren Haven. Survivors: She is survived by two sons, Thomas J Reedy & wife Julie of Mexico, NY, and Dr. Ralph M. Reedy of Middleton, WI; two sisters, Angela Kogut of Woodbridge, NJ and Francis Wageman of East Brunswick, NJ; two step-grandchildren, John & Elizabeth Urban of Syracuse, NY, and many nieces and nephews. A sister, Mary Wyzykowski, and five brothers, Michael, Casimir, Louis, Anthony and John Kogut all predeceased her. Services: Family and friends are invited to call at the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave Washington NJ on Friday from 4pm-7pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church 200 W. Carlton Ave, Washington NJ. Interment will follow in the St Joseph Cemetery, Washington.
