Obituary of George Pels

George J. Pels, 91 of Lopatcong Twp, formerly of Washington NJ died Monday September 16, 2013 in the Care Center of Lopatcong. Born August 3, 1922 in White Twp. He was the son of the late George E. and Mary V. Schultz Pels. He moved to Mansfield Twp in 1938 and then to Washington Borough in 1976. He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving with the 214th Field Artillery Group in the European Theater of Operation with the rank of Staff Sergeant. George was employed by the Port Murray Dairy Company for 25 years and then Agway Petroleum Corp for 14 years before retiring in 1984. He was a Committee member and Mayor of Mansfield Twp from 1954 to 1960. George was a member of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Washington NJ. Surviving are his daughter Sandra Barcik and husband Joseph of Phillipsburg, daughter in law Emmy Pels of Richmond Va, grandchildren, Tina, Dawn, Kristin and Scott and great grandchild Alaina and his best Lab friends Bailey and Regan. He is predeceased by his loving wife Edna Woolf Pels of 67 years a son Gregory Pels, and four brothers and 5 sisters. Visitation will be Thursday September 19th from 9:30-10:30 AM in the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave Washington NJ 07882 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St Joseph's Catholic Church 200 West Carlton Ave Washington NJ 07882.
