Obituary of Maria Gamez

Maria C. Gamez, age 73, of Belvidere, NJ died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at Warren Haven Nursing Home, Oxford, NJ. Maria was born February 4, 1937 in Perico Matanza, Cuba a daughter of the late Manuel and the late Carmen (Farinas) Diaz. She was predeceased by her first husband, Guillermo Pockels in 1969 and is survived by her second husband, Arsenio Gamez of Belvidere. Maria earned a Masters in Education from Kean University and was employed by Elizabeth Board of Education as a Special Education Teacher. She was a member of the New Jersey Education Association as well as the National Education Association. Maria enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, Arsenio Gamez, she is survived by a son, William Pockels of Elizabeth, NJ; a daughter, Vivian Ventriglia and her husband Ralph of Washington, NJ; a brother, Manuel Diaz and his wife Mercedes of FL; two sisters, Dulce Estenoz of FL and Theresa Nunez and her husband Miguel of FL; and two grandsons, Eric and Anthony Ventriglia of Washington. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 10 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 am on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Washington, NJ immediately followed by burial will be in St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Washington on Friday.
