Obituary of Kenneth Coban
Kenneth Coban, 77, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the Care Center Of Lopatcong, Phillipsburg, NJ. Kenneth was born on August 15, 1930 in Lebanon Twp., NJ a son of the late Joseph and the late Mildred (White) Coban. He graduated from Washington High School in 1949. One of Kenneths most memorable moments was him ringing the church bells on VJ Day announcing the victory over Japan. He proudly served during the Korean War. Later, he was employed as a repairman with NJ Bell. Kenneth lived a very active life. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and camping which he loved to do with his grandchildren. Kenneth also was an adventurer, riding motorcycles, earning his pilots license and driving race cars, once, even racing against Mario Andretti. He belonged to the PA & NJ Coin Clubs located in Hackettstown, Washington, Phillipsburg and Forks on the Delaware. He was one of the founders of the Hackettstown club. Kenneth belonged to the National Numismatic Association and was a lifetime member Bell Pioneers. After retirement he began collecting baseball cards and became a collectable dealer. He bred and showed rabbits, preferring white satin rabbits. Kenneth was a member of the United Methodist Church of Washington.
Survivors: Along with his loving wife, Patricia (Harley) Coban of Belvidere, NJ, Kenneth is survived by his son Jeffrey Coban and his wife Daneen of Palmer Township, PA; two granddaughters, Janessa and Cassidy; and two nieces and three nephews.
Kenneth was predeceased by his sister Hazel Thomas.
Services: Friends may call Monday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ. A Funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private. Online condolences may be expressed at www.devoefuneral.com.
