My dear sweet Dr Gwen. We have not spoken or crossed paths in so many years. She was on my mind today. So strongly. I did not know that she had passed. Heaven has truly gained an angel and this fallen world has lost one. We met in the 80’s, when I was a young social worker, with the Phillipsburg Head Start Program. I learned so very much from this wonderful woman. She was a teacher, a counselor, a mentor, a coach, and a dear friend to all who crossed her path. I’m blessed that she was in my life. The last time we sat down and had lunch together was with my four year old grand daughter, Mariah, who is now 24 I was thrilled to have her meet my first grand love. Dr Gwen was fun loving and witty, as usual. Mariah so enjoyed her, as well. Dr Gwen said something to me that day that continues to resonate in my brain. Mariah is of mixed race, as well as the five grands who followed her. Dr Gwen shared “God made bi racial babies extra beautiful because He knew the challenges they would face, in this world.” She schooled me on the importance of having a multi cultural environment, as I was helping to raise my granddaughter. And so I followed her advisement. How I wish she could see Mariah now and meet my other grands. Maybe she can. Maybe, just maybe this overwhelming feeling to reach out to her today is her presence beside me. I sure hope so.
My late condolences to her family. Dr Gwen was so very loved. By all. She touched so many lives. And we are all greatful and better individuals because she cared.
