Obituary of William Bill Hight

William “Bill” Hight Jr., 78 of Karrville NJ, passed on Saturday, June 7, 2008 peacefully at his home surrounded by his Loving family. He was born October 1,1929 in Lebanon Twp. NJ, a son of the late William and the late Mary (Fulper) Hight Sr. Bill was an outstanding athlete at Hampton High School, enlisting in the US Army his senior year. Bill proudly served his country in the US Army from 1948-52. He served in the Korean War in 1951-52 as a corporal tank Commander. Earning two battle stars. Bill married Rosemarie Hoover on August 10, 1951. He retired from a thirty year career at Allstate Insurance Company in 1990. Bill was a very dedicated Deputy Conservation Officer in Warren County for 30 years. He was an avid Hunter and fisherman, traveling extensively with his wife in Alaska, Chile, and many other states hunting and fishing. Bill especially loved Baseball, The team he rooted for is the Phillies. He managed the Glen Gardner Team in the Tri-County League and won the 1955 League Championship. He also managed several little league teams and the Washington PAL baseball team. Bill signed a baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs organization and played one month in the minor league until he was called to report for duty in the Korean War. Later, He scouted for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Bill became a master wood decoy carver winning many ribbons in competition. His expertise was in working decoys. Bill was the most loving father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all his family. He cherished his relationship with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all that knew him. Memberships: He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Host #6, High Bridge, a life-time member of the American Legion Post 131, Belvidere NJ and a life-time member of the VFW Post 5119 in Glen Gardner NJ. Bill belonged to the First Presbyterian Church in Washington NJ. Survivors: His loving wife of 56 years Rosemarie, one daughter, Robin Scheier and her husband, Barry of Lebanon Twp NJ, two sisters, Virginia Sinko and her husband Alex of Alpha NJ, and Louella Hubbard, of Washington NJ and four grandchildren Danielle and Brett Scheier, and Christian and Jared Hight survive him. He was predeceased by his sons W.Scott and William III and his brother Robert Hight. Services: Visitation will be Thursday evening 6-9 pm. The American Legion service will be held at 7:30 pm followed by the Masonic Service at 8 PM. Funeral Services will be Friday morning at 10 AM all in the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave, Washington NJ.
