Obituary of Maryann Hilliker

MaryAnn Harriett Bennett Hilliker 81 of Phillipsburg NJ, formerly of Hampton NJ, passed away on Friday January 2nd surrounded by her loving family and her best friend, her beagle "Rocky". She was born August 12, 1927 in East Orange NJ, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Florence Eager Bennett Sr. She won the National Spelling Bee in Washington DC while attending 7th grade in Plainfield NJ. She also won a certificate of Excellence in Journalism. She was a former member of the Hampton Planning Board in Hampton NJ, She was also the Deputy Borough Clerk, and Recreation Director. She enjoyed writing children's stories and doing crossword puzzles. Surviving are her Children Judy Bennett Keating and husband John of Annandale NJ, Jim Hilliker and his wife Jennifer of Riegelsville PA, Jack Hilliker of Phillipsburg, Joy Hilliker and her partner Evelyn Deutsch of Allentown PA, Jeanne Roberts and her husband Wayne of Lower Nazareth Pa, June Calhoun and husband Tim of Pensacola Fl, Jill Guidi and husband Jim of Phillipsburg, Jayne Johnston and husband Frank of Phillipsburg NJ and Art Hilliker and wife Juli of Washington NJ, 23 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, sisters Winnie and husband Bob Napoli, Nonnie Knolles, and a brother Alfred Bennett Jr. Her Husband Arthur, a grand daughter Kymberly Jayne Johnston and a sister Beverly Levitt preceded her in death. Family and friends may call Monday 5:00-7:00 pm in the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave, Washington NJ followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
