Obituary of Marilyn Backer

Marilyn Jean Backer, 73 of Palm Bay, FL, formerly of Hampton, NJ passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Marilyn was born on September 19, 1938 in Glen Gardner, NJ. She was the daughter of late Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Laura ( nee Gulick) Cregar. Marilyn was a graduate of North Hunterdon High School in 1956. She was the wife of Mr. Harry Backer which they celebrated 52 years of marriage in September. Marilyn worked for the West Norton Farm Dairy Store in High Bridge, NJ, the Postal Service in Hampton and Glen Gardner, NJ, and Shoprite, in Washington, NJ. She was a member of the Hampton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for 39 years, and also belonged to the Hampton School P.T.A. Marilyn was an enthusiast of hot air ballons, nascar racing, and loved go cart racing with Harry, Kevin and Cory. She is survived by her husband of 52 years; Harry Backer. She is also survived by a son; Scott Backer and wife Kim of Nazareth, PA, four grandchildren; Kevin, Cory, Derrick, and Owen, her beloved cat, Abby and several nieces, nephews, and their families. She is predeceased by two sisters; Norma Eick and Arlene Gibson and brother; Jack Cregar, and her daughter; Lori Backer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Musconetcong Valley Presbyterian Church, Valley Road, Hampton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marilyn's memory may be made to the Hampton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary or The Musconetcong Valley Presbyterian Church, Hampton, NJ.
