Obituary of Winifred Friese

Winifred A. Friese, 88 of Washington passed away on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Warren Hospital. Winifred was born on May 22, 1922 in Washington, NJ. She is the daughter of late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick and Helen (nee Potter) Alleman. She graduated from Washington High School in 1940. Mrs. Friese attended the University of Illinois. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Washington ,NJ since 1937. Winifred volunteered for American Red Cross, and Miller Keystone Blood center. Winifred was an avid quilter and certified teacher for the National Quilting Association. A member of the Warren County needle arts guild, Hunterdon county quilting guild, and the NJ quilt heritage group. Volunteer teacher and judge for Rutgers cooperative Extension of Warren County. Winifred worked many years for the Warren County election board. She was honored in 2008 by Hackettstown Regional Med Ctr. as a volunteer of the year. Winifred is predeceased by husband of 53 years Philip W. Friese, 1995. She is survived by her 2 daughters; Lynne and Jeffrey Johnson of Indian Harbour Beach, Fl and Susan and Richard Rothrock of Allentown, PA, 1 son; Philip and wife Martha Friese of Los Angeles, CA, 2 grandchildren; Thomas and Garrett Blinn of FL. She is also deceased by her daughter; Beverly Ross, 2007. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Washington, NJ. Donations in Winifred’s memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church to benefit the Washington Community Food Pantry, 40 East Church Street, Washington, NJ 07882.
