Obituary of Dewey Engel

Dewey ( Doede) Engel also known as “Pake” 82 of Washington NJ died today December 15th 2011 peacefully with his loving family by his side. He was born in Bolsward Netherlands October 17th, 1929He was the son of the late Lucas Engel and Pietrik (Moeke) Dykstra Engel. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1953. Married his sweetheart Betty (Buojke) Mulder on December 11,1954. They just celebrated their 57th Wedding anniversary. He served in the Dutch army from 2/9/49 to 11/11/50 during the Indonesian War, then the US Army from 7/20/54 to 6/9/56 during the Korean War Dewey worked for the Dutchman until 1967. He then worked for M & M Mars until his retirement in 1989. He was an avid woodworker, making lawn Ornaments , wooden ships and windmills for family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially watching soccer. Dewey is survived by his wife Betty, sons Ronald and his wife Candy of Port Murray, and Brian and his wife Helen of Gastonia NC, daughters, Patty Fisher of Mansfield Twp, Diane Folks of Mansfield Twp and Brenda Bonners and her husband Jay of Sumpter SC. 12 grandchildren, Dana Zagame, Archie Fisher III, Shane Engel, Katrina Folks, Stephanie Folks, Amanda Engel, Travis Reed, Kassie Reed, Nicholas Engel, Jarod Engel, Alexis Bonners, and Cobie Bonners and 5 Great grandchildren, Ethan Mackey, Luke Engel, Lily Engel, Zoe Engel and Kylie Philhower. and two sister Joukie Meinsma of Bolsward NL, and Annie Dykstra and her husband Andre of Heeg NL. And many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in Holland. He was predeceased by his son in law Arch Fisher Jr in 2001. The viewing will be Sunday December 18th from 3-6PM in the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave, Washington NJ. and again on Monday from 9-10AM followed by Funeral Services at 10am in the funeral home.
