Obituary of Gene Quinzel

Gene Quinzel, age 92, of Washington, NJ died Saturday, April 2, 2016. She was born in Bristol, CT on April 23, 1923 to the late Clarence and Irmgard Mahoney and was the stepdaughter of the late Martin Mierisch. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Harry T. Quinzel and her sister Barbara. She moved to New York City when she was 10 years old and was a member of the 1st graduating class of the High School of Music and Arts. She married Harry at age 17 and resided in Springfield, NJ. She volunteered for the Red Cross for over 20 years, she was in charge of blood drives during World War II. In addition she drove ambulances for the local first aide squad. Gene was a Real Estate Agent in Springfield, NJ. Among her many talents she was a artist, who had her own ceramic studio and taught ceramic classes for many years. Moving to Washington in 1979 where she continued to teach ceramics, she became involved with the local school literacy program at the Brass Castles School which matched 6th graders with members of the senior community. Gene is survived by her son; Robert Quinzel and wife Susan, 2 daughters; Dorothy Nasif and husband Edward, Elizabeth Asman and husband Rob, 2 sisters, Vivian and Grace, 1 nephew; Charles and wife Florence, 8 grandchildren; Kristen, Steven and wife Federica, Gary and wife Andrea, Edward, Jr., Amanda, Jennifer and husband Mike, Brian and wife Diana and Kimberly, 2 great grandchildren; Jack and Rebecca. A visitation will held at the DeVoe Funeral Service, 136 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882 on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 4 pm - 5 pm with a celebration of Gene's Life beginning at 5 pm. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bread for Life Food Pantry, 6262 Main Street, Glouster, VA 23061 or to your local food pantry in memory of Gene.
