Obituary of Gladys Blemmer
Gladys Blemmer of White Township passed away on March 31, 2010 at the age of 84 at home surrounded by her family.
Born in New York, Gladys moved to her beloved mountain home as a young bride and spent 64 years tending to her flowers and garden in her free time. She shared her knowledge of gardening taking great joy in giving away plants, strawberries, and vegetables to family and friends. She loved to knit and share her creations.
She enjoyed her life to the fullest with optimism and remains a great inspiration to her family.
Gladys' career spanned 30 years of service to Warren County. She retired from the County as a Data Processing Coordinator. She worked tirelessly to serve the community with her wealth of knowledge and keen attention to detail. She was known for her integritiy, sense of fairness and as a tough negoitiator. She served as Clerk to the Board of Chosen Freeholders, Vice Chair and Secretary of the Women's Democratic Party of Warren County, The Warren County Board of Elections, The Warren County Welfare Board, Citizen's Liaison to White Township and 24 years on the White Township Board of Education. In retirement, Gladys served as a Member of the Board of Trustees to the Warren County Community College. The importance of education was always a focus of her life. In her later years and declining health, she remained current in the local and state news by reading the newspaper and discussing events with family and friends.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Julia Hall. Her husband Ernst Blemmer proceded her in death in 1965. Gladys leaves her daughter Carol and her husband Bill, son Claude and his wife Sylvia, a brother Ernie and his wife Mary, and may loving family members, wonderful friends and devoted cats Sam and Tina. Though we will miss her wonderful sense of humor, we know she rests in comfort now.
A memorial service for Gladys Blemmer at the Summerfield United Methodist Church-68 Summerfield Road, Belvidere, N.J.- Saturday May 15, 2010 at 11 am with Pastor Barbara Hoffman presiding over the service
In lieu of flowers, the Blemmer family asks that donations be made in Gladys' name to The Karen Anne Quinlan Memorial Foundation of Newton, NJ., The Belvidere or Oxford Fire and Resue Squads.
