Obituary of Frank Convey
Frank H. Convey, Sr., age 96 of R.D.1 Washington, NJ passed away peacefully Thursday morning June 9, 2011. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ in 1914. He was one of five children born to Patrick Hamilton and Ann Margaret (Leuchs) Convey. He was a 1931 graduate of Saint Benedicts High School in Newark, NJ and graduated from New York State Agriculture College, Farmingdale, NY with a degree in Agriculture. Frank owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 57 Broadway for 64 years and had been engaged in dairy farming for most all his life. As well, he was the tax collector and treasurer for 27 years in Franklin Township after retiring from farming in 1969. Frank was an avid NY Yankees fan, hunter, fisherman and successful racing-pigeon fancier.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his 4 siblings (John, William, Mary and Edwin). He is survived by his loving wife Helen of 73 years, three children: Margaret of Tucson, AZ, Frank Jr. of Dayton, OH, and Joseph of Washington, NJ, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Frank was a member of St. Josephs RC Church, the Easton Racing Pigeon Club, and the Warren Grange.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Devoe Funeral Service. On June 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM a Mass will be said in Saint Josephs RC Church, 200 Carlton Ave, Washington, and will be followed by internment in Saint Josephs Cemetery on Jackson Valley Road, Washington, NJ. Also, a social gathering will be held immediately after the burial in Enzo at 328 West Washington Ave.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the American Heart Association, or the Parkinsons Disease Foundation.
