Joseph Berner of Washington, NJ died Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at the Care Center Of Brakeley Park, Lopatcong Township, NJ at the age of 83. Born August 13, 1923 in Arcadia, PA, Mr. Berner was the son of the late Joseph and the late Emma (David) Berner Sr. Mr. Berner was married to Elizabeth Papics for 56 years. He was an Owner/Operator, employed by Oxford Liquor Store for 13 years, and employee of Shop-Rite Liquor Store in Hackettstown, NJ for 30 years. Military He served during World War II in the Navy from 03/01/1943 to 02/02/1946. Memberships: Mr. Berner was a Charter Member and Past President of the Oxford Lions Club; member of the Belvidere American Legion and VFW #6714; and a member of Freedom in Christ Church of Washington, NJ. Survivors: His wife: Elizabeth (Papics) Berner and one son: Barry Berner and wife Kitty of Fairbanks, AK Brother-in-law, Frank Papics; Sister-in-law, Peg Oram; Sister-in-law, Til Hotckins; and 3 grandchildren: Aaron, Briana, and Cole. Predeceased by his brother, Charles Berner, brother, Andrew Berner, and sister, Margaret Gelegonya Services: Friends may call Friday from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at DeVoe Funeral Service Inc., 136 West Washington Ave, Washington, NJ.
