Obituary of Robert McDonnell

Richard Mark “Turtle” McDonnell Sr. 76 of Hampton NJ died Tuesday April 20th in Easton Pa. He was born in Port Jervis NY June 14, 1933. He was the son of the late Francis and Esther Goodrich McDonnell. Turtle was a Crossing Guard in Hampton NJ for many years. The Borough of Hampton named his corner “Turtle Square” in his honor. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Turtle was an associate member of the Hampton Fire Company for over 30 years, as well as a member the Fire Police. He belonged to the American Legion of Frenchtown NJ, the VFW of Glen Gardner and the Moose of Hackettstown NJ. He was a member and a Deacon at the Musconetcong Valley Presbyterian Church in Hampton NJ. Surviving are his wife of 56 years Edith Westman McDonnell, 3 sons Richard Jr of Hampton NJ, Alex of Port Murray NJ and Michael of Tatamy PA, 2 daughters Kathy McDonnell of Bayonne NJ and Karen McDonnell of Hampton NJ, a sister Esther Westbrook in North Carolina, 2 brothers William in PA and Willard in NY, and 3 grandchildren Melissa, Ryan, and Julia. He was predeceased by a brother, Harry, and 3 sisters, Carol Larson, Pauline Obrien and Betty Mueller. Visitation will be Friday April 23 from 5-8pm in the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave, Washington NJ. Funeral Services will be in the Musconetcong Valley Presbyterian Church ( Not the Chapel) Asbury Road Hampton NJ on Saturday at 11AM. Burial will follow in the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery.
