Obituary of Robert Corso
Robert “Bob” S. Corso, 63, of Bloomsbury, NJ passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born September 21, 1952 in Newark, NJ, he was a son of Lois Voelk Corso and the late Frank Thomas Corso. Bob recently retired from PSEG in Newark, NJ where he worked as a Senior IT Consultant for over 30 years. He was a 1970 graduate of Hillside High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from NJIT and continued post graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Bob served in the U.S. Army Reserve in the 1970’s.
Bob was an avid fisherman. He competed in annual bass fishing tournaments with his brother Tom and good friend Glenn, where the winning prize was a dollar but the bragging rights were priceless. He enjoyed watching hockey and playing volleyball. He also loved to play the guitar and sing to his favorite tunes, particularly songs by the Beatles and Jimmy Buffett.
Bob was a true family man. His crowning achievements were his children. If they were okay, he was okay. He was always planning weekend barbeques and kept an open invitation to anyone that might like to come. He was known as the “social director” for the annual family vacations at the Outer Banks, where he’d host murder mystery parties and other games.
After his retirement, Bob and his wife Sheryl traveled the country in their RV that they named “Trek.” He enjoyed their adventures together and was always planning something new. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him. He always put others before himself and had a positive attitude about everything.
In spite of a devastating cancer diagnosis, he said, “It is what it is,” and continued to look out for his family by checking off a key list of concerns regarding their welfare before he passed on. He spent his last days on this earth teaching his granddaughters how to dive into the deep end of the pool, and he was blessed to have frequent visits from family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Sheryl Pucik Corso; his mother Lois Corso of Whitehouse Station, NJ; a daughter Alissa Caiazzo and her husband John, of Cookeville, TN; a daughter Jaclyn Buttitta and her husband Francesco, of Forks Township, PA; a son Frank T. Corso of Bloomsbury, NJ; grandchildren Giulia and Arianna Buttitta of Forks Township, PA; a brother Thomas Corso and his wife Shelley Bartush, of Easton, PA; a sister Debra Rimar and her husband Joseph, of Lopatcong, NJ; a brother Michael and his wife Marianne, of Wall, NJ; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Bob was predeceased by a nephew, Andrew B. Corso.
Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Bob’s life on Thursday, September 1, 2016 from 4-8pm at the Riverview Country Club in Easton, PA. In lieu of flowers, warm hugs and well wishes are appreciated. The family also requests that a random act of kindness be performed in Bob’s memory.
