Obituary of Natalie Tatariw

Natalie Tatariw of Hampton, NJ died peacefully on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, NJ. She most recently enjoyed residency at Independence Manor, Flemington, NJ. She was 88. Born in the Ukraine on May 10th, 1921, she was the daughter of Wasyl and Neonila Wengrshenowsky. Natalie had to discontinue her studies at the university in Kiev due to World War II. She attended classes at the University of Berlin, where her uncle was a professor of history. She also worked as a Russian/German translator for the allies at the end of the war. Her parents insisted on a one-year engagement when she met her future husband, Ihor. They married in 1946. They became Displaced Persons and were on a waitlist for over two years for the opportunity to emigrate to the United States. In 1949, she and her husband emigrated to the United States with their 2-year old son. They celebrated 58 years of marriage in June 2004. As well as being a homemaker, Natalie was very active in the family contracting and plumbing & heating businesses. She was an administrator and bookkeeper until 2006. She also was employed as a clerk for the Glen Gardner Water Company retiring in 1986. Her volunteer activities included the Hampton Ladies Auxiliary, the Hampton Elementary School PTA, and the Red Cross. She also served as Cub Scout Den Mother. The fact that she never had a driver’s license did not keep her from being involved. She prepared the most delicious meals. She had the biggest heart and put her family first. She will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Her loving husband of over 58 years, Ihor, preceded her in death on November 18, 2004. She is survived by three children, George of Hampton, NJ, Irene Tatariw Trindle and her husband, David, of New Hope, PA, and, Ron and his wife, Suzanne, of Oak Hill, VA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren and her husband, Ian, of Easton, PA, Karen and her husband, Elijah of Brooklyn, NY, Susan and Claire of New Hope, PA, and, Corianne and Jonathan of Oak Hill, VA, and, two great grandchildren, Nell and Morgan. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Monday, May 10 at the Chapel of DeVoe Funeral Home, 136 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ. The brief funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm following visitation. Interment will follow the service in the Musconetcong Valley Cemetery Valley Road, Hampton, NJ.
