I have memories of her all through the years, and her mother as well going back to my nursery school days at the Presbyterian Church. The blizzard of 1966 occurred on a Saturday and Christmas Day services were to be held the next day. There were no services and Dorothy as well as my mother and I showed up at the Church amidst 3 feet of snow. Corinne Pursels mother, and Anna Stem were amongst the others. We all met in the Pastors office and just had a big chat about the storm events. I just learned of this yesterday and am saddened by it and did keep in contact with her all through the years. She gave a lifetime of service, especially after her retirement and is now joined back with the many people and family members that have been gone so long. No doubt about it, "Absent from the body and present with the Lord!!". She gave a life time of service and through life's difficulties, "Fought the Good Fight and won!!". Well done, Thou good and Faithful Servant!"

I am so saddened to hear of Dottie's passing. I worked with her at Warren Hills High School for many years, and she was the light of the main office. She was the first person who welcomed me on my first day of work and every day after that. She was the sweetest person with the biggest heart. After her retirement, I would always look forward to seeing her at various rummage sales and we would get to catch up. I was also a lucky recipient of some very inspirational pieces of mail which I treasure to this day. I am sure she is making Heaven a brighter place. Please accept my condolences.

I recently attended a funeral where the family was asked to choose three words that best described their loved one. As I thought about that for our dear Dottie, I had to use four words. First, Dottie was FAITHFUL. She had an unwavering quality that was gentle and comforting, but always steadfast and sure. She always fulfilled her commitments and always committed to helping whoever and wherever she could. Dottie was a SERVANT. I once read a commentary that explained the difference between a servant and a bond servant. A bond servant is one who was set free, but out of love for their master continued to serve the master anyway -- out of their devotion and not as a slave. Dottie fully understood that God had paid the ransom for her to be with Him forever through the shed blood of her Savior Jesus. She was free to live her life as she chose, pursuing her dreams and goals. But, Dottie became a bond servant. Her goals and dreams were the goals and dreams of her master. She showed each of us God’s love as everything she did reflected the love of her master, Jesus, to us. Dottie was our FRIEND. I’m sure each of us has a Dottie story. She was our support, our helper, our encourager, and our confidant. She made us feel important to her by the time she gave us and the thought she put into her gifts, and cards and notes. Many of us have received her cards – the ones with shorthand on the back that says “A Dot original, with God’s help”. I could never say thank you enough to express how much she did for me personally and for my family. She was that friend that is spoken about in Proverbs – the one who sticks closer than a brother. Dottie was a TEACHER. She taught me very important lessons. She taught me how to be a good secretary (that’s how I know what it says on the back of her cards). She showed me how to be a good friend. She taught me to be steadfast – to keep trying. She taught me that material things don’t matter – not at all. That what matters is that we have the relationship with Jesus that she has and that we pour out of ourselves the love He gave us to those around us. I will miss her. She was such a large part of my life and the life of my family. But I know I will see her again, and spend an eternity with her and the rest of my loved ones who have reached heaven first. So, while I’m sad for me, I’m happy for her. She has reached the goal set for her by her master and I’m sure is hearing the words “Well done, good and faithful servant”.

When I first met Dottie we became good friends right away. Before long she became a big part of our family. We both felt more like sisters. Whatever either of us needed, we put everything else on hold and did what was needed for one another – no matter what. The big thing was we didn’t even have to ask, we just knew we could count on each other. I truly don’t know how I’m going to make it without her, but I take comfort in knowing she is now without pain and with God. I’m sure He must have needed another angel in heaven. I am sure everyone here today has been blessed having Dottie as part of the lives. I have truly been blessed with her as my good friend and my sister.

Miss Rost was a smile of encouragement in high school. I would stick my head in the guidance office just for that daily boost. In recent years I have come to appreciate her encouraging words as much as I did back in high school. A true servant of God, she will be missed.

High school wasn't always easy. Sometimes, I hid out in the Guidance Counselor's office because looking up the future was better than living in the present. Miss Rost was always there with a smile and something cheerful to say to me. She helped me locate the catalogs I needed and asked me questions about what I wanted to do. I'm not sure she knew she was being tremendously helpful to me. Many years later, I went visiting at Warren Hills after having done many of the things I'd dreamed about with some more to come, and I found her in the main office. She remembered me right away, and we had a long talk. It was so good to see her. I hope all those years before and after brought her happiness and the knowledge that she helped so many kids who were wondering how they'd get along in life.

We will truly miss you so very much Aunt Dot
Father God,
Welcome my Aunt Dot
Into Your kingdom.
Let her enjoy the reward of a Christian life,
To spend eternity
In endless praise
Surrounded and reunited
With lost loved ones.
Bring peace to those who remain,
Grieving the loss of our
Aunt, and friend.
Let them rejoice
At Jesus' victory over death
And the neverending gift
Of heaven.
In Jesus' name.
Amen.

To Dorothy's Family - We were blessed to have the privilege to sit in the pew in front of Dorothy at First Presbyterian Church. She was the first person that welcomed us into the church in 2003. Over the years, she loved hearing our stories and watching our children grow, and we loved hearing her words of wisdom. She truly was our "church grandma." We loved receiving "Dorothy mail" as it came to be referred to in our house. She was an amazing, caring person who always wanted to see the best for everyone. Church will not feel the same without her sitting behind us. She will be deeply missed. We will forever cherish the memories we have of her.

To The Rost Family,
Dorothy was such a great friend. She was always there in time of need. I worked with Dorothy for 14 years at the Warren Hills Regional High School. Ever since Dorothy retired in 1999 our school has not been the same. Those years in which Dorothy worked in the Main Office, she made work feel like home. She was a very simple and humble lady. Never endorsing herself and the great acts of kindness she bestowed upon others. I personally new Dorothy outside of school as well. She was the most SELFLESS individual I've ever known. She did not want or need anyone to promote her kind deeds. She was truly a reflection of God's unconditional love! Dorothy I know you are with God right now and everything has been restored to you as God has promised. Even the rendezvous with your Beloved. It is with deepest heartfelt sympathy I write this condolence. Praise God for the blessing of Dorothy Rost, an Angel in Heaven.

The class of '55 - a great group of people. Dot will be missed at our class reunions. We still have a beautiful note she wrote to us as we were getting ready to say goodbye to our exchange student son from Argentina. Dot was very sensitive to how much we were going to miss him. She was a loving and caring individual. We send our condolences to the family.

I am grateful beyond words for the blessing of knowing and working with Dottie from 1981 to 1999. and I am glad we stayed in touch in the years after. She was the ultimate professional and the ultimate Christian. She maintained a fire of love energy in the guidance office and later in the main office as well. Dottie was consistent as the sun and I don't ever remember her getting impatient or losing her calm disposition in the hectic life of a high school day. I once heard it said that in a school environment everyone is a teacher: faculty, secretaries, janitors, etc and, if that is the case, Dottie was the master teacher, a woman students could look up to and faculty could rely upon. Rest in peace, dear friend. Well done good and faithful servant. With love, Ed Romond

My Aunt Dot's mission in life was to simply help others in any way she could. She was the most caring and considerate person I have ever known. She will be sadly missed by our family , but we know she is in a better place with Bob, her mother Emma, her father John and her brother Rich. I am sure she is already figuring out how to help others in Heaven. Peace be with you, Aunt Dot.
