Obituary of Ethel Hunt
Ethel M. Hunt, 100, of Bethlehem Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2014, in Little Brook Nursing Home, Califon, New Jersey. Ethel was born in West Orange, New Jersey, on May 16, 1914, to Leona (McKelvey) Hays and Charles W. Hays, and named "Ethel May Hays". She was raised in West Orange where she graduated from high school in 1931. She worked for S.H. Kress & Company for about sixteen years in different positions including Store Manager. After her marriage in 1948 she was a housewife and she assisted her husband, Madison, with his business, Hunt's Greenhouses, Inc., in Wood-Ridge, NJ, then later in Bethlehem Township, NJ.
She enjoyed horseback riding and dude ranches, needlepoint, model trains, collecting stamps and coins and nature watching. She sold handcrafted items at Golden Talents in Flemington.
As a youth, she was in the Eastern Star. She was an Assistant Girl Scout leader and a member of the Assumption School Mothers Guild. She supported and contributed to the Musconetcong Watershed Association.
Her husband, Madison Hunt, and her brother, Charles Hays, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Hunt and Susan Hunt, her grandson and his wife, Alan Hunt and Elizabeth Drew, her great granddaughter, Madison Hunt, and her granddaughter, Jennifer Hunt, and her two half-sisters, Silvia Enoch and Shirley Farmer.
A viewing will be held at DeVoe Funeral Service, 136 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ 07882, on Wednesday, January 7, 7 pm -8 pm. Visitation with a brief service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 10:30 am at DeVoe Funeral Service. Interment will be at 2:30 pm that afternoon at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Musconetcong Watershed Association, PO Box 113, Asbury 08802 in memory of Ethel M. Hunt.
