Obituary of Elmer Keenan

 

Elmer Keenan, 85 of Country View Village, White Township, NJ died on Friday July 26, 2019 in Warren Haven Nursing Home, Mansfield Twp. NJ

He was born in Jersey City NJ, September 29 1933. He was the son of the late Elmer and Elizabeth Keenan and stepmother Gertrude Keenan.

Elmer was a Sales Rep for Elizabethtown Gas Co. for 32 years retiring in 1995.

He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958.

Elmer loved baseball. He played for the Tri County Bombers baseball team and played in many Men’s adult softball leagues before finally retiring when he was in his late 50’s. He also was an avid bowler and golfer.

He was a 60 + year member of the first Presbyterian Church of Washington NJ. He served as a Deacon, Elder and was a member of the Choir. He also served as a youth group advisor.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Dawn (Kries) Keenan, sons; Mark and his wife Wendy Keenan of Phillipsburg NJ, Terry and his wife Lisa Keenan of Huntsville, Utah, and Brian Keenan of White Township NJ, four grandchildren; David and his wife Rebeca, Jaren and her husband Josh, Arielle and her husband Blair, and Hannah Rae Keenan, five great grandchildren; Charlie, Millie, Gianna, Giselle and Reagen Rose, and a sister in law Mary Keenan of Conway, South Carolina.

He was predeceased by his brother James in 2014.

Mr. Keenan’s viewing will be Thursday morning from 10-11AM followed by a funeral service at 11AM at the First Presbyterian Church 40 E Church Street, Washington NJ 07882. Interment will follow in the Montana Cemetery, Harmony Twp. NJ.

The family would like to send its sincere gratitude to the nurses and aides at Ascend Hospice, Compassionate Care Hospice and the Warren Haven Nursing Home for the love and care they gave to Elmer.
