Obituary of Samuel Smith
Samuel J. Smith, 86, of Lebanon Township, NJ passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
Samuel was born on April 19, 1925 in Corry, PA. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elmer A. and Isabella ( nn Matheson) Smith.
Samuel was the founder and owner of Spruce Run Fuel. He was the superintendent of the Sunday School and a member of the Board of Trustees of Spruce Run Lutheran Church. He was an avid traveler, loved fishing, and was a devoted family man.
Samuel served in the United States Army during World War II. He received many honors including; American Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, EAME Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Pauline Bodnar. He is also survived by a son, Edward Smith and wife Eileen of Asbury, NJ; a daughter, Anne Sainz and husband Victor of Lebanon Township, NJ; four grandchildren, Patrick, Kelly, Carl, and Clare; and one great- granddaughter, Lily.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the DeVoe Funeral Service, Inc., 136 West Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. A service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 11:00 a.m. at the Spruce Run Lutheran Church, 442 West Hill Road Lebanon Township Glen Gardner, NJ 08826. A burial will follow in Spruce Run Cemetery.
