Obituary of James Monahan
James Robert Monahan, 59 of Hampton NJ, died May 8th in The Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Twp NJ.
He was born July 28th 1949 in Somerville NJ, He was the son of the late James Francis and Esther Veronica (Larkin) Monahan.
James was a Project Manager, Network Designer, Sales Engineer, Instructor and Course Developer at AT&T for 30 years retiring in 2006. From his retirement to 2008, he worked for IBM as a Systems Engineering Consultant.
He was a 1967 graduate of North Hunterdon Regional High School, and in 1971 received his Bachelors of Science in Economics at Missouri Valley College. His training included courses at the University of Alabama as well as multiple courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Through his 20 years of involvement with the Fresh Air Fund, Jim introduced hundreds of NYC children to a place he loved, Hunterdon County. He received the 2007 Chairperson of the year award from the New York City-Fresh Air Fund.
He was a member of the Project Management Institute. He also received the Directors Award for Excellence from AT&T..
James enjoyed Irish music, playing guitar, teaching guitar to children, fishing, yoga, hiking, camping, traveling, and reading.
He is survived by his wife Mary Catherine (Lynch) Monahan, a daughter Shannon Monahan and her husband Milo Miller, his sons Sean and James, a sister Joan Veronica O'Rourke and two grandchildren Eli James and Isaac Floyd Miller.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 7-9 pm in the DeVoe Funeral Service 136 West Washington Ave Washington NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday May 13th at 10 am in St Ann's Catholic Church, Hampton NJ. Interment in the Parish cemetery.
