Obituary of Lena Re
Lena Theresa Re 91, of Washington NJ died on Thursday May 21st, with her family at her side, in the Warren Campus of St Lukes Hospital.
She was born on August 3, 1923 in Port Murray NJ. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Frances (Leggio) Fazio. At a very young age Lena and her family moved from Port Murray to Washington where she remained the rest of her life.
Lena was a 1942 graduate of Washington High School. While working at the Soda Fountain in Stover's Pharmacy in Washington, she met the man she would marry Joseph Re a decorated War Veteran whom served in the European Theater WWII. Lena and Joe were married on August 17, 1947 and they resided next door to her parents in a home Joe had custom built.
Through out her life both she and Joe belonged to and supported many organizations. They were both well known and perceived with in the community due to their political and social involvement. Lena proudly supported her husband during his tenure as Mayor of Washington. She was a longtime member of the Washington Fire Department Ladies Auxillary and the Legion Auxillary. Lena volunteered many hours at the Voting Polls and various town functions.
Lena was a lifetime member of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Washington NJ, and a member of the Alter Rosary Society. Lena also shared a special friendship with Father Blaise, that she truly cherished.
She worked at The DMV and was the office manager at Elko Hemming both in Washington NJ
Lena will be dearly missed as she has gone to join those who've gone before her, she will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her great Italian cooking. Lena is preceded in death by her husband Joseph 1992, and recently her daughter Mary Re, also sisters Mary, Angelina and Rose.
She is survived by her son Joseph and his wife Debbie of Forks TWP Pa, and her only grandson Jared and his fiancee Jessica, and her loving cat "Sam" and nieces and cousins. Lena is also survived by many dear friends and neighbors whom graciously helped her in many ways especially during the latter years of her life ,it was with their gracious support and many acts of kindness Lena was able to remain in the home that she cherished. A very special thank you to Georginna for her friendship and loving care she rendered to Lena.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday May 26 at 11AM in the St Joseph Catholic Church 200 West Carlton Ave Washington NJ. Family and friends may call at DeVoe Funeral Service on Monday May 25 from 6-8PM
Interment will follow the Mass in the St Joseph Cemetery Washington NJ
