Obituary of Edith Shafer
Lifelong Belvidere resident Edith Nancy (nee Morgan) Shafer died peacefully at Hackettstown Community Hospital on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. She was 90 years young. She was the daughter of Russell and Mary (Rush) Morgan and wife of the late Earl Shafer.
Edie retired from Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceuticals in 1983. She ran a daycare center from her home for many years and worked as a companion to the elderly. She was the oldest living member of the United Methodist Church of Belvidere; a member of Soroptimist Club International; the Womens Club of Belvidere; and the Rebekah Lodge. Edie enjoyed traveling, the Jersey shore and casinos but was happiest in her own back yard. Mrs Shafer was preceded in death by a son, Dennis, and a daughter, Nancy E. Hausamann.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Kevin E. Shafer and his wife Kathleen of Mifflinburg, PA. Also by granddaughters: Mrs Dayna Carroll and her husband Mark, of Clinton; Mrs Jennifer Fritz and her husband Dr. John, of White Township; Miss Tara Hausamann, of Easton, PA; Miss Kara Shafer, of Lewisburg, PA; Miss Kylie Shafer, of Mifflinburg, PA; Mrs Patricia Golla and her husband Scott, of Gibsonia, PA and grandsons: James C. Hausamann and his wife Cynthia, of White Twp.; Sgt. Daniel Hausamann, US Army; and Tyler Hausamann, of White Twp. She had eight great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons. Edie also leaves behind many beloved neices, nephews and her faithful Circle of Angels.
Private family services are under the direction of DeVoe Funeral Home, 136 W. Washington Ave., Washington, NJ 07882. The family requests memorial donations be made to the Joseph T. Quinlan Bereavement Center, 214 Washington St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
