Obituary of Elsie Seay

Elsie Viola Seay, 91, of Port Murray, NJ passed away October 18, 2014 at Hackettstown Community Hospital. She was born April 16, 1923 in Newport News, Virginia to Robert Lee and Alice Jarvis. Elsie was a member, secretary, and clerk of Hillcrest Seventh Day Adventist Church and was a very active supporter. She worked as a caregiver at Hunterdon State School for many years and was also a trained midwife. Elsie was considered to be the "mother of the neighborhood" who would watch and care for all the children. She was an excellent baker and would often visit and bring food to those who were unable to leave their homes. This remarkable and selfless woman became a volunteer foster grandmother for ten years until 2012. She received a certificate of appreciation from the State of New Jersey for ten years of community service to The NJ Foster Grandparent Program of the Governor's Office of Volunteerism. She nurtured countless children and touched many lives. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Maceo in 1986. She is survived by her son Maceo Thompson of Washington, NJ, her daughter Audra Seay-Richards and her husband, Sule, of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and three grandsons, Maceo Jr., Joseph, and Osei. She is also survived by her brother Robert Jarvis and two cousins that are more like sisters, Cleo Alexander and Ruby Siggers of Buffalo. Elsie is predeceased by her brothers Nathaniel and William Jarvis and her sister Mary Thompson. Visitation will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 from 10-11am with services to follow at Hillcrest Seventh Day Adventist Church 590 Route 57 East, Port Murray, NJ.
