Obituary of Duane S. Alpaugh

Duane S. Alpaugh, age 92, of Washington, NJ died Thursday, July 27, 2020 at the Hackettstown Medical Center. Duane was born December 26, 1927 in Summit, NJ. He is the son of the late Urias and the late Anna (Wortman) Alpaugh. His beloved wife of sixty six years predeceased him on July 3, 2019.

A graduate of Washington High School where he played football and baseball, Duane worked as an electrician for Elastimold in Hackettstown. A devoted and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Washington, he served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and was also on the maintenance committee. Duane was also active with the Boy Scouts and was an exempt member of the Washington Fire Department, after active service for 17 years.

Duane had a gift for art, especially oil paintings. His art work was in many local and State competitions.

Duane is survived by his daughter Ellen Woolf and her husband Arnold Jr of Broadway NJ; two sons: Steven Alpaugh and his wife Karen of Washington, NJ and Jim Alpaugh and his wife Dawn of Lambertville, NJ; grandchildren Victoria and Garrett. Sisters: Janice Merritt of Florida and Elaine Hope Trachin of Washington NJ. Along with is beloved wife, Duane was predeceased by his son Daniel and sister Barbara Pletzer.

Graveside service will be held privately at the Washington Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date and time. Arrangements are under the care of Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington NJ.
