Janet Butterworth, of Washington, NJ, born February 13, 1942, passed away at home on Sunday, April 3, 2022.  She was raised in Millburn, NJ.  She attended Chatham High School and was a graduate of Kean College, Union, NJ.

Miss Butterworth taught Art at Washington Boro Public Schools (NJ) for many years and then in her retirement, taught Art at Good Shepherd Christian Academy, Washington, NJ.   Her home was filled with paintings of people and animals that she loved, art being not just a vocation but a love in her life.

She had several beloved German Shepherd dogs.  She was an avid gardener who enjoyed canning the produce she raised. She found joy in driving to Florida to visit her cousin, Suzanne, each year until very recently.

She served in Awana (children’s ministry) and VBS (Vacation Bible School) for many years as part of Faith Discovery Church, Washington, NJ which she attended for the last 21 years. Each year she lovingly prepared dozens of boxes for Operation Christmas Child, an outreach ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, that reaches millions of children in developing nations.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Crawford and Freda Butterworth; a brother, Harold, and his wife, Ann.

A memorial service for Janet will be held at Faith Discovery Church, 33 Brass Castle Road, Washington, NJ on Saturday, May 14, at 11 am.
