Obituary of James A. Gary

James A. "Jim" Gary, 89, of Oxford, NJ, passed away on Wednesday May 10, 2023 at the Brakeley Park Care Center, Phillipsburg, NJ. Jim was born on July 7, 1933, in Stewartsville, NJ and was the son of the late Howard and the late Lois (née Gruver) Gary.

Jim attended High School and left at the age of 17, to join the United States Navy. He served his country aboard numerous vessels and was honorably discharged on October 19, 1953. 

James married his beloved wife Joyce Cole on July 2, 1961, together they raised two children, Michael and Lisa. Jim worked for many years at Imco in Belvidere, New Jersey as a Plant Supervisor.

Jim had many joys in life, but he especially loved being an umpire. He umpired games for both baseball and softball from grammar school through high school. He was a lifelong and passionate Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Later in life Jim enjoyed a good round of golf.  

Jim is survived by his two children; son, Michael Gary and his wife Kim of Oxford, NJ; daughter, Lisa Wolfe and her husband John of Washington, NJ; grandchildren, Tina Tichenor and her husband Bob, Dawn Dewalt, Wendy Witner her husband Lee, Kristen Gary and her husband Kwa, Jason Wolfe and Tara Wolfe, great-grandchildren Ashley, Lindsay, Ryan, Desiree, Sabrina, Kiana, Kenna, and Kiara and by his dear friend Loretta. 

James is predeceased by his beloved wife Joyce, stepdaughter Bonnie Fernandez, sister, Gail Hildebrant, brother, William Roseberry and Richard Hanna, companion Lois Lord.

Visitation for Friends and Relatives will be held on Saturday, May 20th, from 9:00 until 11:00 AM with the funeral service starting at 11:00 Am at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington NJ 07882.
