Obituary of Bertha Elizabeth Beam
Bertha Elizabeth Beam, 64, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey passed away on April 26th, 2024 at her home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side after a short battle with cancer. Bertha was born on September 10th, 1959 to the late George and Eleanor Hornbaker in Flemington, New Jersey.
Bertha was raised in Washington, New Jersey and attended the Warren Hills School system. On January 8th, 1978 Bertha married the love of her life, her late husband, Howard “Red” Beam Jr. Bertha was a loving mother to her children Georgina and Howard III and was a homemaker until both of her children were in their teens. It wasn’t until later in life with an empty nest that Berth decided she wanted to go to work, Bertha worked Rite Aid as a cashier for many years before leaving to take care of Red after he was diagnosed with cancer.
Bertha loved her family above all else and being the best wife, mother and grandmother she could be was of the utmost importance to her. Bertha took great pride in raising her birds and had parakeets that she adored. In her spare time she loved to go shopping, especially with her granddaughter and didn’t mind splurging every now and then. Bertha was a fan of Facebook and catching up with friends and family regularly as well as enjoying the games it offered. She also enjoyed all the videos on TikTok that people had posted.
Bertha will be forever missed by her daughter, Georgina “May” Beam; son Howard “Mork” Beam III; grandsons, James Yarnell Jr., Nathan Beam, and Evan Beam; granddaughters, Breanna Yarnell and Keira Beam; brother, Howard Hornbaker; sisters, Shirley Hornbaker and Robin Stevens; and by many nieces and nephews.
Bertha is predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard “red” Beam Jr.; her parents George and Eleanor Hornbaker; and by her brother George “Tom” Hornbaker.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Saturday May 4th, 2024 from 1pm until 3pm at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington, New Jersey, 07881. Immediately following the visitation a Service of Remembrance will be held at 3pm to honor Bertha’s life and legacy.
