Obituary of Barbara Ann Theis

Barbara Ann Theis, 81, of Belvidere, New Jersey, was called home to the Lord on September 20, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Elizabeth and William Beyersdorfer. Barbara graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, New Jersey, in 1960.

On April 3, 1978, she married her beloved late husband, Edward Theis Sr. Throughout her career, Barbara dedicated herself to serving her community as the welfare director for the towns of Oxford, Washington, Belvidere, and Liberty before retiring. Her passion for helping others also extended to her involvement with Weight Watchers, where she served as a group lecturer.

A devoted member of the Oxford Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary and a faithful woman of the Methodist faith, Barbara’s spirit touched many lives. Barbara was a trusted confidant and she cherished the simple joys of life, often found rewatching her favorite shows, The Sopranos and The Chosen. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting and, most importantly, spending precious moments with her family.


Barbara is survived by her sons, Ryan Theis, Jonathan and Linda Paes, and Edward and Renee Theis Jr.She is predeceased by her husband, Edward Theis Sr., and her first son, Brent Paes Sr. She shared her love and encouragement with six of her grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Barbara’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In her memory, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and compassion.


A Memorial Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Saturday September 28th , 2024 from 11am until 1pm at Knoll-DeVoe Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 142 West Washington Avenue, Washington, NJ, 07882. Immediately following the Visitation at 1pm a Memorial Service of Remembrance will be held to honor Barbara’s legacy.
